Main Sreet News Flash

I learned this morning at the local Coffee Shop that a grocery store will be returning to Cedar Vale's main drag. (Cedar St.) It will be at 707 Cedar St. and I think this was the Woodruff Cleaners which Wayne told us about when he was on the Main Street series. Maybe later it was Chuck Fields Grocery. If so then it will come full circle. It is the 2nd (or 3rd) shop uphill from the old post office. The Baptist Minister and his wife--Mark Davis--are going to take the plunge.

Another subject--Yesterday a large funeral was held at the local Funeral Home. Loren Sweaney died of complications from COPD and Heart problems. He was class of '52 and married Mary Jane McCall, class of '54. They had a Harvesting operation which worked from the Texas border up into Canada so there were many people across the nations wheat belt who were long time friends of theirs.

Wayne will, of course, know better than me, but I believe Fields grocery was next door "south" of the cleaners.

Gary's memory is right on.

Because of Don's News Flash, I was just re-reading some of my CV Main Street articles. I have to say that they were brilliantly written and had an important contribution to the memories of CV historians. Probably they should be published in the New Yorker Magazine. Yes, probably I am getting senile.

Yes, but consider your audience!

After further checking, I now know that the prospective grocery will be in the former Chuck Fields Grocery--not the Cleaners.

We are working hard to get the grocery store open, hopefully, around the first week of June. If anyone has any pictures of the old grocery, will you please let me make some copies of them? I'd like to get copies, frame them, and then put them on display in the store as a historical record of the building. My wife and I can hardly wait to get better acquainted with folks in Cedar Vale. We hope everyone will stop by after we get the store open and say, "Hello!" God bless you all!
