Winter Memories

I woke up this morning to ice on the streets of Santa Fe. That took me right back to days growing up in Cedar Vale when ice would coat the whole world and shut everything down. I'm reading that you may be in the midst of just such a storm again. If so, take care, stay warm, and let us know how you are doing.

It might be a good time to write about the current weather situation, and memories of winters past. I am wondering if the kids are sledding down Main/Cedar Street today. Other news and memories??

It is thanks to Velma Fesler that I learned how to, or how not to drive on icy roads. I was driving our old 1951 blue chevy pick-up down the country roads toward her house in Hewins, when in crossing a little low-water bridge on some long forgotten creek, I hit a patch of ice and skidded off the bridge into the creek. The water was only six inches deep, but I had to walk to Cable's farm and Mr. Cable got his tractor and pulled me out and back on the road. I learned to respect the power of ice on the road.

Yes, Wayne, we learned early how to deal with ice. I often wish that the drivers I meet here could have such good training.

I've been to Santa Fe several times, just not in winter. I'm a bit surprised that you get ice and snow there. I think of the mountains around you as getting the snow.
I do remember some very cold winters in Cedar Vale and more than one in Nashville, TN.
Boring weather in Volcan, Panama -- highs 75-85 F, lows 55-65F. Same forecast for next 364 days. Sunny & mostly dry from now to mid-April, then partly cloudy and some rain each day until next Dec. 15.
Let me know if you are coming to visit and I'll clean out the 2nd bedroom, currently the "storage room".

We do get ice and snow here, but nothing like Kansas. Last year we had one 24-inch snow that stopped everything in Santa Fe for days. They don't have the equipment for that much snow.

We are getting a little snow every few days. It thaws in the day and refreezes at night, thus the icy roads.

Thanks for the invitation. Don't know when we might be heading that way, but I'll keep it in mind.
