"If You Had, One Story to Tell, About Cedar Vale!

I know.

One story turns into stories. Sliding down a hill, next to the carpenter's house, who lived on the hill. His first name was Lon. Anyone remember his last name?

In the winter, sliding down that hill, under the barbed wire, and into the field of beyond! I think it was the "getting up" that I remember, facing a long trek, back to to the top! But, what a ride on the way down! Ducking down to avoid the barbed wire! Ducking down to see how far I could go!

Well, I've ducked a few barbed wires. And, saw how far I could go! Yet, I never went further, than that "Cable-hill" run! That was it! How I loved the bumps and bruises. How I loved to see how far I could go into the Beuchles's (sp?) corn field~!!!!

Just one of many stories. Tell me yours. Time is short. Tell us yours!

I expect you are refering to Lon Barnes who lived on that hill. I didn't know it was called the "Cable" hill. I guess I never coasted down that hill, but it sure sounds fun.

Yes, Lon Barnes was his name! As I remember, he injured his leg while riding a horse-drawn mower.
"Cable Hill" may be a misnomer. Charlie and his wife lived near the Barnes' residence. Proper identification of the hill should have been the "Barnes Hill!" It was close to the water/power plant.

I have given this subject some thought and have decided that one of my favorite memories of CV is going to the Hankinks Drug Store after school, where there was alot of giggling girls and shy boys trying to get one another's attention. I,especially, enjoyed when Mom was working because she alway put extra vanilla in our cokes. Also, when I was very young, it was a special treat every Saturday night to come to town and eat at Herb's. A great greasy cheesburger and a bowl of chili. Very, very good!!!!!!!!!!
