GOODBY BRONCOS

To all you purple and gold alumni who may not know, at the end of the current football season, the Bronco's and the school colors of purple and gold will be a thing of the past. With the combining of Dexter and CV sports activities, the new team name will be the Spartans, with new school colors. I also understand our arch rival Sedan is going to eight man football. So to all you former cheerleaders, band members and athletes who wore the purple and gold uniforms, cheris the good old days. My fifty plus year old, purple and gold letter jacket with the big C, still looks pretty good. I wonder if I could sell it on e-bay?

Lucky guy. I could not afford a letter "jacket" but had to do with a white letter sweater. My mother sewed all the letters and icons on the sweater and it still sits in my closet looking like new. As far as selling it on e-bay, I can't even interest any of my family in having it.

They'll always be the Broncos to me. I still have my letter jacket, too... but mine is only 9 years old. Hard to believe that Sedan is going to 8 man; they were 3A when I graduated. Things are tough all over.

We were all scurrying around trying to find Bronco Memorabilia for the Labor Day Parade and festivities recently. The theme was the end of the Bronco era. All I had left was my letter--no jacket and no sweater.

Uh,oh......I feel a parade coming on! Can't you just see it? Starting at the top of Holroyd Hill, and "bringing it" down the main street of our beloved Cedar Vale! "Bringing it" with purple and gold held high...or however high we can get our revered colors! Walkers! Motorized vehicles! Cyclists! Oh, no! I see a band, cresting over the northern horizon, giving their all to the fight song! Heads held high! Slowly we march..regimental in nature! Old folks, young folks, cheer us on, to the "purple and gold" finish line! And, at that "line," we stop. We form a group and sing to the top of our lungs, "V-I-C-T-O-R-Y, ARE WE IN IT, WELL I GUESS, CEDAR VALE HIGH SCHOOL.....YES, YES, YES! Ambulances are there to cart off those of us whose down-hill climb was too much. The crowds cheered, waving their purple and gold banners, cheering our effort....as a purple and gold haze began to form to the south, to the east, and to the west. It was then that we all knew, colors may change but purple is always purple and gold is always gold and never the twain will part!

In ages hence, there will be those who will remember the days of purple of gold and auld lang syne will take second place to the memories thereof!

Oh well, it's been a field of dreams. Purple was built and gold people came. And, their lives and ours, were changed forever. Long live the PURPLE AND GOLD!

I enjoyed your parade, even though I got short of breath and my knees finally gave out completely and the chest pain got pretty bad. But it was worth all the pain. Thank you.

That's going to be a sad day in Cedar Vale when we have to say goodby to our beloved Broncos.
