Phil - Meant to add that we really did have a good turnout in 1996. We have had good class Reunions in 1976, 1981 and 1996. I was in touch with Walter Ford a couple of times in 1996 and he and his wife said they would be there, but they weren't and I never did hear why. D.Lois Miller Brant didn't come in 1996. Her husband, Dean, graduated in Winfield. They have a Reunion every five years in October. D.Lois couldn't come to ours in May because they were going to Winfield in October. They live in Scottsdale, AZ. I should have said in my comment to Don Cox that Maxine Duncan's husband, Gene, is also deceased. In 1996 I put together a memory book for our class. I had kept a great scrapbook with class group pictures from 1st grade (grades 1,2,3 thanks to Joan)thru 11th grade and all of our individual senior pictures, lots of newspaper articles our four years in H.S., play programs, letters from former teachers and a recap of what everyone had done since May '46. It was a fun thing for me to do. All class members received a copy. Well,Phil, you didn't ask for all of this. You will no doubt be careful with your questions from now on.
Well, Pat ... you are one of the best bloggers and your comments always attract my attention. To me, people stories with a connection to your own experiences are that which makes life more interesting.
Anonymous - I received the following letter in 1996 re Edward Schyler Oerke. It is from his sister, Rowena Oerke Jones. She lived in Norman, Oklahoma. I don't know about another sister. "Edward was born August 3, 1928 in Caldwell, KS to Lloyd and Nanetah Oerke. He moved to Cedar Vale his Junior year in high school when his father transferred there as a rural mail carrier. Edward played the part of artemus Burke, a lawyer, in the junior play, ONE MAD NIGHT. He played the part of Jesse Cochran, a money-minded person, in the senior play,HOUSE OF FLASHING LIGHTS. Edward participated in the musical activities of CVHS and in the annual Music Festival in 1946 he received an Excellent rating for Boy's Unchanged Voice. He also had a part in the operetta WORDS AND MUSIC given March 15, 1946 by the CVHS mixed chorus and he sang in the boy's double quartet. Edward was an Honor Student his Senior year. He died August 13, 1975 in Larned, KS and was buried in Kingfisher, OK."
When I asked about Ed Oerke, I was thinking of or remembering Rodney Gurski and not Ed Oerke. Does anyone have any memories or thoughts concerning the Gurski family?
Well, that is just dandy, anonymous! I pulled down the attic stairs; climbed up there in 125ยบ temperature; emptied 6 boxes before I found my High School stuff; threw it all down into the garage where it scattered in 1120 different directions; broke my ankle (maybe both ankles and one leg, I don't really remember) on the way down the steps; lugged all the stuff into the house; nearly died of a heat stroke in the ambulance on the way to the hospital - AFTER I let you know what I know about Edward Oerke - and it wasn't even him you are concerned about !! No, I didn't even know there was/is a Rodney Gurskey. And, please note, you didn't even spell his name right. Oh well, such is life !
I appreciate your efforts, which I am sorry caused you so much misery and then were in vain. Oh well, such is life. And I still know nothing more about the Gurskeys.
Rodney Gursky is deceased--he hung himself 15 0r 20 years ago. Edwin Gursky is also deceased. Byrtle Gursky is alive (I can't remember her married name just now). I think she attended her 50th class reunion this year at CVHS.

I guess the similarity in the names Edwin Gursky and Edward Oerke confused me. Doesn't take much anymore.
